Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) is a plant found in the southern states of America.  It’s a small palm with sharp teeth-like spines – hence its name! Historically, the plant’s reddish-black fruits have provided a food source for wildlife and for humans too. Saw palmetto was used by Native Americans for its diuretic, sedative and aphrodisiac properties.

The  concentration of fat-soluble extract from the saw palmetto  berries contains the important compounds, namely the fatty acids and sterols. The actions of these nutrients are thought to relieve urinary discomfort in men with an enlarged prostate gland. This could include reducing frequent urination and the sudden urge to urinate – and inability to urinate. It may also decrease the need to urinate during the night
