Patchouli Essential Oil (Pogostemon cablin) is extracted by steam distilling the leaves.

MARNYS® Patchouli Essential Oil is 100% pure and chemotyped, that is, it has got a defined composition and is 100% of natural origin. Patchouli has been obtained by steam distillation and has not been denatured or mixed with other oils, what ensures the properties of the essential oil.

MARNYS® Patchouli Essential Oil contains the chemotypes: patchoulol, α-gualene, δ-gualene and bulnesene. Its colour and appearance is dark brown and has got a characteristic woody taste, properties that favor food taste.

MARNYS® Patchouli Essential Oil is a food-grade oil, perfect to give an exotic touch to highly spicy preparations.

What is patchouli?

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is a species of plant from the Lamiaceae family, commonly called ‘mint’ or ‘deadnettle’. Patchouli is an evergreen shrub, reaches up to 1 metre high, with a robust and fuzzy stem, large, fragrant and velvety leaves, and small pale pink-white flowers.

Patchouli is native to the tropical regions of Asia and, currently, is widely grown in China, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Myanmar, India, Maldives, Malaysia, Mauritius, Seychelles, Madagascar, Taiwan, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, South America and the Caribbean. Patchouli leaves have been used to make herbal teas. In some cultures, patchouli leaves are eaten as a vegetable or used as a condiment.
